It all started in 2007 at a high school football game our senior year, although our histories have intertwined much longer than that. He saw me, I saw him, and in some ways it was actually love at first sight, even though neither of us believed in that sort of thing. In fact, my first words to him were "You're my bofriend now." and the rest is really history! I'm sure you've all heard the story a million times by now.
Our story is a long one and we've been through a lot together, but the true testament to our relationship is how we made it through our younger and more rebellious years. Let's just say we'll save those stories for a different day.
There were actually four proposals.
Once, at seventeen years old and three months into our relationship, he walked me to the stairs behind a starbucks one evening and asked "Will you marry me someday?" I said yes.
Five years later on February 8th, 2013 I drove over to his apartment, like I did most nights, except this time I had a surprise for him. It was a silly gift, really. I bought a fifty-pack of top ramen and wrapped it in the fanciest wrapping paper I could find. It was a joke gift to celebrate that he had moved out on his own for the first time. He opened it, grabbed me into the most amazing hug, and asked "Will you marry me?" I said yes.
That same night, he decided that he wanted to do something bigger for "the moment.", we got in the car and he drove me to Heritage Park in Irvine, grabbed my hand and we ran through the park to Irvine High Schools football field. It started raining, and the sprinklers came on while we ran. When we got to the place where we met, he spun me around, we lost our footing and slipped in the mud. Dirty and wet, he asked "Will you marry me?" I said yes.
On May 11th, 2013 he told me he wanted to go out, but wouldn't tell me where. We drove around for a while until we made our way to the park in Turtle Rock, Irvine. We had gone there often to enjoy the trees. We were walking along the creek and he got down on one knee and pulled out the ring. He asked "Kendra Ellice Hubbell, will you marry me?" I said yes!
